"Oh Jesus!" It's serious.
There have been great people down through the centuries. Some names, at least it would seem, will never be forgotten.
Nimrod, Alexander the Great, Julius Ceaser, Cleopatra, Catherine the Great, Albert Einstein, to name but a few.
But when it comes to names of God, we seem to remember one or two and for the most part, we don't mention them much.
We call him:
Our Father
Lord
Jehovah
Abba
Yahweh
We know he told Moses that his name is "I Am that I Am."(Exodus 3:14) It is of little surprise then that Jesus would use the same title again and again. In the Gospel of John we read:
"I am the Bread of Life." (6:35)
"I am the Light of the World." (8:12)
"I am the Door." (10:7)
"I am the Good Shepherd." (10:11)
"I am the Resurrection and the Life." (11:25)
"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." (14:6)
"I am the true Vine." (15:1)
"Before Abraham was, I Am." (8:58)
It is also important to point out the name "Jesus" is the Greek of "Joshua" which means "Jehovah Saved"
God is very Jealous of his name and the name of Jesus because he is Holy and he demands and commands respect.
Despite how Holy God sees any of his names or titles, however, people are very quick to interject, exclaim or use profanity with his title or that of Jesus as per examples below:
"Oh God it was a mad party last night."
"Jesus, it was indeed a mad party."
So is it really such a serious matter to say such things?
The answer is "YES."
God tells us in Exodus 20:7
“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain."
Obviously, I am aware that Christians will not see eternal punishment.

That does not mean that God won't punish us here and now. This Commandment makes it clear that he takes exception to the above phrases.
Please do not think that I am scolding you but rather that I am warning you that God will punish you in some way in this life for taking his name in vain.
Trust me, it is serious.
