Tick Tock Tick Tock BOOM
I want you to imagine the following scenario;
You receive a text on your phone:
URGENT ...... URGENT..... URGENT.... RED ALERT.... RED ALERT.... THIS IS AN URGENT MESSAGE FROM THE IRISH GOVERNMENT. RUSSIA HAS LAUNCHED A MISSILE AT IRELAND AND WILL STRIKE IN FIVE MINUTES.
MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON US ALL.
What would you do?
Who would you try to contact?
Who would you hold close for the remaining 4.59 seconds?
Would you think of your soul?
Would you think about eternity?
Would you consider praying?
Now consider seeing the text too late. You only have 30 seconds left ..... What then?
At a time when tensions have never been higher between Russia and NATO, the above scenario is not unlikely. Keep in mind that Russian submarines and warships are never very far from Ireland.
The BIG question then is "Are you ready for death?" There is an absolute certainty that you will die. It is just uncertain as to when and how.
The Scriptures tell us in 2Samuel 14:14 "We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again....."
In Hebrews 9:27 "And just as it is appointed for mankind to die once, and after that comes judgment."
The BIG question then becomes "Are you ready to be judged by God?"
If that Nuclear missile were to strike would you be ready to face God and answer for the current state of your soul? If God were to judge you right now would he be welcoming you into Heaven or sending you to the Lake of Fire?
It may surprise you to learn that God does not want you to go to the Lake of Fire. God didn't send his Son to invent Christmas and Easter or a new religion.
When Jesus was talking to Nicodemus he explained why he came. What was the purpose of God sending his Son to die on a Roman Cross outside of Jewish Jerusalem.
We read about it in John 3:14-18:
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
In Peter's first sermon in Acts chapter 2 he ends the Sermon with this:
Acts 2:38
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
In chapter 3 Peter explains:
Acts 3:18-20
18 But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. 19 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, 20that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus,"
You may have noticed that word "Repent." It means to completely turn around and away from sin. If you wanted to condense the above passages of Scripture into a few words it would be Repent and Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved from the power of sin unto life everlasting.
You would have a certainty that when you die, God will welcome you into Heaven. It must also be pointed out that Jesus has promised all who believe in him the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
I wouldn't wait too long to consider your soul or its eternity.
